What toxins lurk in your lotion?
One of the primary reasons that I started FillHappy was that I discovered the products we use every day might not be as tested as we presume they are. Every day, we apply makeup, lotions, body cleansers, mouth cleansers... we wear clothes that have been washed with detergents... and all of these things emit smells (which are airborn chemicals!).
One of the best articles I have read about this is "Harmful, Untested chemicals rife in personal care products" by Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health. It is a summary of Mia Davis's talk, “Toxic Trespass: Harmful & Untested Chemicals in Everyday Products."
She says that "Under a law that has not been updated since 1938, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has little power to regulate the ingredients in personal care products". What? How can that be? "Even known offenders such as formaldehyde, triclosan, and phthalates are still legally permissible in product formulations."
